I was thinkin, because theres quite a few musicians on here something like this could be possible. A few years ago on the old Iron Maiden boards they had this online band where all the musicians would record a part of a song and someone would mix it all together and youd get a whole cover song. The results were actualy really good and it was alot of fun. There were alot more members on that boards but still anyone think this could work for Paramore songs? Anyone interested?

I wish I had an empty house and a better microphone. I could show you guys a sample, but I haven't got a thing ready, and people are asleep. But yeah, I've been able to scream for a while. Trying to master inward screams.

Inwads can mess up your voice pretty bad, so I hear. But if you wanna learn that, practice doing pig squeals and mouth movements and low/high pitches.

I play geetar, bass guitar, I am about to buy a microphone in a few weeks and start getting singing lessons and I have productions chops to a reasonable degree.

I know how to play a fair amount of Paramore songs.

Whether I can be fucked contributing is another matter entirely:mrgreen: (and also the fact, that until I actually start taking singing lessons, my singing voice is going to be total, complete shit)

Seriously though and I hate to be "that guy that goes there", but there's quite a few road blocks.

One is that there is A MAJOR difference in the quality of production betwen Iron Maiden and Paramore, make no mistake.

Riot! and Brand New Eyes are easily some of the most well produced records around whereas Iron Maiden sounds like a demo in comparison (not a knock to the music, I've been an Iron Maiden fan for almost as long as our own Rebecca has been alive and know the music inside out backwards, but the production is generally not all that great though).

Basically, it will work well if ya'll got some nice recording interfaces, a bit of technical knowledge be able to use them, some knowledge with DAW software and your chops are up to scratch on your respective instruments ( don't know about most of you guys so far, but I do know Pekka is pretty solid as far as guitar playing goes and I'd say comfortably owns my ass at guitar any day of the week and Jordan is pretty damn solid I must say too).

But otherwise, as much as I hate to be the bearer bad news and the blunt honest truth, but it's most likely gonna sound like a wash of static noise or at least some horrible lo fi garbage band production (if that's your thing, but it certainly ain't mine:rotfl:), which is why it's generally a lot easier to do these collaborations with people from audio engineering forums/recording forums.

There is SOOO MUCH shit to think about when you do these kind of collaborations that it's simply mind boggling

But heh, surprise me, pull out ya recording interfaces if you've got 'em (yeah that's right Pekka, I know you have one and know how to use it ya cunt:mrgreen:), send me files and I'll mix this shit.

Anyway, hopefully in the coming weeks I can post some shit up in my own thread and I'll leave it to you guys to decide if I have a reasonable ear for production or not and if you want to take me on board as the production dude if you can get some cool shit coming my way (taking into account I've been into this stuff for 7 months, a far cry from that of David Bendeth who produced Riot! and has been in business for about 30 years and Chris Lord-Alge who mixed Brand New Eyes who's been mixing music before I was even born)

I had a cover of "That's what you get" and a cover of Sunday bloody Sunday (even if it's not a Paramore song, they just covered it). Anyway,I don't have them anymore, unfortunately.

So yeah,I could help with the singing. :shifty:

Anyway,I have some other covers (not Paramore ones),so if anybody wants to hear them, just let me know and I'll just post them. :shifty:

FWIW muthafuckers

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1663306/Decode%20Cover%201%20%28no%20bass%29.wav

No bass guitar as the name implies

The intro is not even played in time, cos I'm a fucking shit guitar player (but to be fair it's cos I recorded that part for the sake of the intro not being silent, but I obviously didn't practice and the timing and playing is quite shit, but apart from "to be fair" disclaimer I make no excuses for it sounding quite bad)

I also am not used to play in drop D.

I know that sounds stupid, but I actually find it hard to slide power chords around with one finger like you do in drop D (cos I tune to E standard all the time), hence why the chorus sounds a bit sloppy, as well as the fact when I did the second guitar track I forgot to tune it before I recorded it, so it's slightly out of tune on one track.

The guitar tones were reamped with Line 6 POD Farm, no post processing and it's double tracked, but it gives you a reasonable idea of the guitar tones that I can deliver.

Once you add in bass guitar to equation, obviously it sounds better and fills out the currently rather hollow low end.

The drums are real drums, but they aren't mine, I got them from some dude at ultimatemetal.com/forums, but the guitars are all my playing and reamping.

Shoot, I was so going to post "in b4 Harry", but alas...now I can only say that this is a great idea, and I'm in :hyper:

Harry, I'm still not sure where my SM57 went, and I know your anal ear will pick it up instantly if I mic my 15W nuclear explosion with a condenser, so do you think it could work if I just DI the guitar signal and leave it up to you to get the tone that you want?

What song first? I'll leave it up to the singer/singers to decide, because I know I can lay the guitar part down for any Paramore song you want, so it doesn't matter to me. I can play the piano too, if needed, but I know there are better players here for that.;-)

I want Jorgi to play the clarinet so that we can get a big band -thing going:cool:

Aww come on man, leave me some guitar tracks to do you greedy cunt, Pekka:mrgreen:

Yeah, if you are not in possession of at least a 2x12 cab of decent quality and a 100 watt tube amp heap, probably best to not mic up at all, let alone mic up with a condenser.

There is nothing wrong with using a condenser to mic up an amp, there are no technical reasons why you can't and FWIW, Meshuggah had their guitar parts on Chaosphere tracked with a TC Electronics Integrated Preamp into the front end of a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier into a Marshall Lead 800 1960A 4x12 cab finally going into none other than a condenser mic, a Neumann TLM193

But yeah, back to the point, if that's the sound you're after, a condenser mic will kick ass, but I suspect we are not going after the kind of insane, grinding rhythm tone that was on Chaosphere:lol:

I tend to use the Condenser mic simulation on some of my POD Farm tones for leads, and it works well.

But yes, if people can provide DI tracks for the guitars, then it's all sweet.

Don't know what DI tracks are? Go into that thread I made, "Harry's music" or whatever the fuck I called it and I explain it there. It could save your life.

Well okay, it wont save your life but it's gonna be pretty much what I and the rest of us need to get the ball rolling on this project.

DO NOT stick your crappy mic (or even a good mic) in front of your cheap, shitty small solid state amp, send it through your line in of your sound card (or even a decent recording interface) and send the file to me and expect me to be a nice guy and use it for a full song mix.

Why? Because quite frankly I have better things to do than try to wrestle with a horrible guitar tone that is NEVER going to work properly.

Don't have a recording interface? Find a friend that has one?

You have one? Make sure you know how to use it properly.

If you send me a DI track that is of poor quality , I will tell you to come back again next time when you have a better one for me.

The key to a good DI track is first and foremost, good playing and brand new guitar strings. If you send me DI tracks done with ancient guitar strings, I will be able to know pretty much straight away, because I can hear these things.

If a DI track is clipping, I will tell you come back again. Clipping DI tracks = utter fail.

If you send me a good DI track.....well, I have access to Mesa Boogie Rectifier amp simulations, Marshall amp simulations, Soldano simulations, ENGL simulations, Fender simulations, Orange simulations and the list goes on. I will be able to work with you and get you a good guitar tone happening.

So a show of hands, apart from Pekka, of how many of you guys actually own/have access to a decent recording interface that has at least a USB 2.0 connection (or if you have a Line 6 Toneport/Studio, you can get away with the onboard USB 1.1 connection)? And know how to use it properly/have a friend who can set it up for you well? And are also willing to record your guitars to a click track (I don't work with guitars that aren't recorded to a click, because it sounds sloppy and shit)

If not and I don't want to break anyone's hearts here, but you're pretty much outta the game as far as being able to contribute to the project goes.

I MIGHT be able to work with poorly recorded vocals (in the case of what Diana has to do, just record through a crappy mic, it might just be workable) but as far as guitar and bass tones go, DI tracks plz.

And yes it will definitely work if you sent me DI tracks Pekka, so no problemos, because I've gotten MUCH better over the last few weeks with using amp simulations and getting good sounds out of them compared to how it sounded when I first started recording shit 6-7 months ago.

Oh and maybe I will just let Pekka play all the guitar tracks after all, if he really wants..........and bass guitar too if he has a decent bass:mrgreen:

The idea would be different people would do different songs, I do agree with some of what Harry is saying, but it was never my intention to release a studio quality covers album :rotfl: just a bit of fun you know, although it would be cool to hear quality recordings. However if you dont have all the gear that Harrys mentioned, but you do have a shitty little mic that can record a shitty amp, record your parts anyway and if Harrys not willing to mix a lower quality recording, ill do it, just so everyone can get involved! HOWEVER one thing is though the performing is going to have to be up to scratch, im not saying you have to be amazing, but your going to have to be able to play your parts right.

Anyway, ill be down for guitar, just got a copy of guitar rig from my mate, sounds pretty decent actualy :willy_nilly:
