It went Platinum while they were making The Final Riot as it's there is a story in the 40 days of Riot! about Hayley walking in on their surprise party early. So, summer of 2008 sounds about the right time to me. And to answer another question, The Final Riot! did go gold. It's great to hear that Brand New Eye's went Gold. I have also read it is their fastest selling album to date.
