Harry Posted December 1, 2009 Report Share Posted December 1, 2009 xafter day, those covers were quite good, but I noticed intonation issues during quite a few of the lead parts. I'm not sure if that's due to the instruments not being totally set up well, or just problems with technique. Also not a fan of Decode being played in A minor, should have played it in the original key signature IMO. It was also kind of painful to watch your friend play all that stuff without using the pinky, like that verse lick in Crushcrushcrush, it seems a bit unnecessary to to play it that way, using the pinky definitely requires less energy and it's just good practice to get into the habit of the best economy of motion possible. It was a nice touch have two players too, to be able to cover both guitar parts at once. Put it together in 45 minutes, WOW! That's a fantastic job given the time constraints:D Don't worry about the tempo too much. At school, we were performing a Buckethead cover song, this song where the lead guitarist (being me) just gets to jam out an improvised solo for ages (the bassist also got to play a solo, which was cool). I told the drummer before we started "Don't speed it up okay dude!". And of course, him being him, 2 minutes into the song, he sped it all up 15bpm , and I was yelling at him, hoping he'd hear me, to just slow down. This was a performance in front of all our parents too mind you I'm NEVER ever working with a drummer that can't play to a metronome again, they are just too much hassle and have a poor sense of timing normally. Harry Posted December 1, 2009 Report Share Posted December 1, 2009 ^It's better to just hear a vocalist really going for it, maybe bumming a note here and there rather than that ridiculous auto tuned garbage many so called "pop stars" use to cover up for the fact they can't sing for shit at all. Hell, it's not like Hayley herself hits all the notes in a life performance, but if you ask me, the fact she is such an amazing frontwoman that performs her ass off on stage to me means if she could only sing half as well as she does live, it would be amazing, but the fact she can hit almost all the notes perfectly without the aid of autotune or melodyne and perform so well and the entertain the audience she does is simply phenomenal and proves just how RIDICULOUSLY talented she is.
