True, they use some of the same jokes, but it's not so much the joke that doesn't make it funny, more the delivery of the joke. It was too much of it's time and none of the jokes are really that relevant anymore which makes watching the episodes a chore really. The American on started off as a clone of the English one but quickly stepped out of it's shadows especially around the merger time and now it's a show in it's own right....yes the last season was shite but it still had it's moments which is more than you can say about the English one.
