  1. i think on the next season of american idol, versa should preform let down b/c kara dioguardi co wrote it! XD

This would explain why I don't like it as much as the other tracks. I'm not a fan of Kara's songwriting... at all.

  2. dude i really regret not doing the physical preorder, damnit!

Same here. The Cd looks pretty sweet. I'll have to try to find it in stores when it comes out (or order it at a later date if I can't find it).

  3. I really didn't want to debate but I don't have better things to do as Spring Break is on Friday. Perhaps I could find a way to make this part of my microeconomics paper ( I still need a topic aah).

I will make an argument based on my own system, if the arguments you guys are making/I'm countering are based on stuff that is universal to all systems. It doesn't matter if the system is called medicare or iCare or iDont or if it is funded by taxes or robbing the rich or by illegal arms trades from the black budget. I have read up on the bill before posting in this thread, and I was actually surprised by this(and not in the pleasant way), but the arguments against the bill are about things that are found all over the world.

The senate bill is not universal healthcare. That was what I was getting at. Its only supposed to cover about 97% of the population. There is no public option and it provides subsidizes for people to get private insurance. Then there is tort reform (which is definitely needed), covering for pre-existing conditions etc. which is the stuff that is more common across the world. The basis of the bill , however, is not Universal Healthcare as that type of system would never get passed by the senate as the senate is more moderate than the House. Its overall somewhat in the middle between current American system and the European/Canadian system but that could change with the fixes they are going to try to pass with reconciliation.

I've already said that the system can be abused, and so have a few others. It's common knowledge, because we are experiencing it every day. (Yes, I will make an argument based on my country's own system.) Do you really think that's a valid reason to forget the whole system? How many poor americans are currently not covered by medicaid despite their poverty? More than half if I remember correctly. Think about everyone it will benefit.

I mainly used Hubbalou's quote as an excuse to bring out our medicare debt, I'll admit. However, you wouldn't be saying that if you were on medicaid. My brother is on it and its quite shit. When he did finally get a part time job for about 20 hours a week (which doesn't provide insurance), he was about to be cut off which is quite ridiculous. It seemed as though Medicaid didn't want my brother to work at all. Not to mention that the benefits are practically nothing. The states don't have the money so they are giving all medicaid members very little benefits... and with the increasing amount of members the benefits keep going down. So to put everyone on that system could be catastrophic as the state wouldn't be able to pay for it (which goes into a values vs. rationality thing).

So, what exactly are you saying? That your healthcare system is eating too much money as it is? This only means that your overall spending is flying towards a bull's ass (like we would say here), healthcare is not the right place to cut spending! Greece is looking at the possibility of a bankruptcy as early as next year, but I don't see them slicing money out of healthcare.

This is a values vs logic question. If we let ourselves become bankrupt then our money will become worthless and we won't have healthcare but if we do cut healthcare we're going to screw people over. The problem is with medicare that if we don't do something our country could face another great depression if not our own version of the Weimer Republic (without the paying for everyone's war debts thing). If that happens , healthcare could be the least of our problems.

So I could've just jumped over your posts basically? If you were not going to make an opinion, then why did you throw in the remark about people too lazy to find jobs? Surely that wasn't a fact that needed re-stating when many of us have already said why that isn't a valid argument at all?

I was merely just trying to give information that people may not know. Obviously, this backfired.

  4. so..just because we're not americans we can't have an opinion about it?

oh dear lord, the government wants to make sure its citizens actually have health coverage, how dare they

you might not like like the idea now but like many people have mentioned it'll be beneficial in the long run and everyone has to start somewhere

every other industrialised country in the world has done it, so can you

still surprised it's taken this long

You're putting words into my mouth. I stated that this is not the same system as Europe and therefore one should look at whats in this particular bill before making a comment on it.

I also didn't give my opinion on the bill but just information about the amount of debt entitlements have cost the US which are just pure raw numbers (I may have stereotyped people who take Medicaid a little but I never meant that to be used as an identifier of my opinion on the entire healthcare reform). Personally I'm not gonna make an opinion until all the reconciliation stuff is passed and I know whats actually going to be in and out of the bill.

  5. I'm reading up on it right now and from what I can see there are plenty of pros and cons. The biggest con I can see that could possibly make Americans really pissed is the stuff like Medicaid and whatnot. People who can "afford" healthcare end up paying for the people that cant. And, I really don't know how to say this without sounding exceptionally stuck up, but a lot of people on Medicaid are people who are simply too lazy to find jobs. So people that are working and sacrificing their time and efforts are paying for people to have healthcare even though they aren't bothering to help themselves. Most people that pay for medicaid don't receive any benefits of it.

That and the fact that Medicad and Medicare are going to go bankrupt within 40 years. Let me put it this way : http://usdebtclock.org. There is 75 trillion dollars in medicare liability alone .. and thats just for healthcare for seniors. Not to mention that medicaid is growing at a faster rate than medicare now.

Still should mention that this bill is not the same as European Healthcare system (and therefore don't make your arguments based on your own system).

  6. bumping this as the season premiere is tonight. i won't be watching it live but i do have it recording.

also, just to let you know, this is simon's last season on AI. this means that most likely after this year AI will die and be replaced by X-Factor.

  7. Sad thing is that Simon Cowell wants to bring X-Factor to the U.S. This means we would have two "singing competition" shows. I still watch AI though. Its like a trainwreck, I can't look away (and sometimes there is actually someone decent on there).

I hope you guys can get it on top. I'm american and spent all my money on Christmas gifts so I can't help.

  8. ^ I do not know.

Their should be a third option in this poll as I don't think they are either amazing or crap. I think they were definitely influential for a lot of bands and made some good tunes but they are not the best band ever. I can see why people would hate them though. They did kind of create the formula for music that we all seem to hate today :P.

  9. still he's sold about 215,000 copies of his album so far, probably would of been higher than 2 if it weren't released same time as Susan Boyle. Kris Allen only sold 80,000 and got to No.11 so i think we know who's the real winner of this year's American Idol. i really don't understand why so many people are giving Adam Lambert crap at the moment, he's a very talented guy and i really don't care about his sexuality

Actually it doesn't prove crap. Taylor Hick's debut sold 298,000 copies in its first week and yet only sold 809,000 copies worldwide. Daughtry only sold a tiny bit better at 304,000 copies in its first week.Going by first weeks results Daughtry wouldn't have necessarily been robbed as he only did mildly better than him. We all know now that Daughtry ended up selling over 4 million copies. Katherine Mcphee sold the same as Jordin Sparks in their first week (119,000). However while Katherine Mcphee has only sold 375,000 while Jordin has sold 1.5 million. By predictions alone both would've epically failed due to their outrageously low album sales. Lessons: You can't judge an album's success by one week sales unless you're someone like Susan Boyle who went instantly gold with her release. Never underestimate the power of the frau and tards who buy 18 copies of a person's album to prove that they are "the real winnar". Plus with the fact that it was only $3.99 on Amazon grabs all the curious buyers due to the AMA performance among other things.

@music_junkie88 I agree. They reason people didn't like (for the most part) the AMA performance cause he sounded like crap and tried to hard to be edgy.

  10. haven't tried it. doesn't mean i won't try sometime in my life but i'm broke and need all the that money to put myself through school.

also, it should be legal. looking at the research it is safer than good ole alcohol.

  11. they had the snippets up for awhile but now they have taken them down (why i don't know). Anyway if you like the lead single then you'll probably like FYE. For me though its not really my thing. I may just buy a couple songs from this but I won't be buying the album.

if you can find the snippets please post them here.

ETA: I found a few of them . Its only five songs but it should give you a taste of the album.

  12. I find it strange that idol is actually caring for their contestants. Kris' album is great. Adam's album snippets sounds like he had some control but its not really my thing and Allison's snippets don't sound too Miley. Yay for the producers actually getting it this time!

@Lucy : I actually like the live version of Heartless the best but the new album version is not bad either. I got the itunes pass and I hope they don't give the album to me two weeks late. The single was given to me after I had already purchased it aargh (as they originally weren't gonna give you the single till the album came out but for some reason they changed their mind). Makes me not want to buy a pass again.

@Faith: I'm madly in love with his voice as well :).
