  1. tbh Paramore seem a bit crap now.

I mean, RIOT! was amazingly medicore. It's success FAR outweighed its lack of substance.

AWKIF was great. It was a rock record.

Misery Business was good for the first two listens.

They can't even put on an energetic live show anymore. Well, at least Hayley and Zac put some effort in.

Every interview ith them is the same boring stuff. They are soooo over exposed its unbelievable. I used to get excited seeing them in the press, now I don't even bother reading most of the stuff.

They are seen as a family-friendly, safe-as-it-gets band with very little credibility. When I saw them there were a few too many 12 year old girls. Not that music should alienate people, it just feels like they are becoming a Disney band lol. Their association with Twilight has done nothing to help this.

I used to want to represent them. Now I would be embarassed to wear a Paramore shirt.

Don't get me wrong- as people they are still great. But music wise, it's hard to get past the fact that they've become a teenage girls band. I mean, now they are all colour coded outfits and doing shit interviews for teenage girls magazines. It's crap!!

    Anyone else feel the same?

(Yes I am aware I'm gonna get a load of "How dare you!"s and shit, but I'm allowed to have opinions, and I know people that agree with me)

Ok, I'll bite and throw my 2 cents in...

First of all, you seem far too concerned what other people think about the bands you like and the music you listen to. If you like Paramore, wear their shirts. If you don't, don't. But why care what other people think? Who cares if teenage girls like them? If you like them for the music, then the rest of that b.s. doesn't matter.

AWKIF is, in my opinion, an overrated record by a lot of "early" Paramore fans. It's a very good record with a number of impressive songs - but it's not a modern classic or anything like that. It's also not produced particularly well (again, my opinion) - and tbh, I think the primary reason most people worship it is either a) it was the first thing they heard by Paramore and, for that reason, it's always going to be special to them or B) they think it's uncool to like RIOT! and cool to like AWKIF.

I personally don't find myself listening to AWKIF much anymore - the songs progressed so much live as the band grew that I much prefer the live versions from Anaheim or any of the more recent shows.

As for RIOT!, I don't see how you can declare the record as having a "lack of substance." We Are Broken is a very substantial song about the pain we encounter in this world. Miracle is a brilliant song about faith. Does the album have its poppier, hit type songs? Yep...but even Misery Business is based on a real-life event and is an extremely honest, straight-forward song - in many ways, a big departure from other songs Hayley's written.

As for the production on RIOT! - it's clean and bright - it sounds like a David Bendeth record. Is it my all-time favorite sound? No. I do think it's better produced than AWKIF...but I also feel that the live renditions of many of the RIOT! tracks have progressed beyond what's on the record - so again, I prefer to listen to those.

I don't get the criticism of the live shows that you offer either. I think they've become an exceptional live band, especially as I look back over the past 3 years - and I've never seen any lack of energy from them onstage - even the last time I saw them in VA (on the Final RIOT! tour), where the arena/amphitheatre was far from full due to poor local promotion. The only person you could potentially criticize for a "lack of energy" onstage, imo, is Josh - but he's always been a relatively stationary performer. And honestly, they don't all need to leap around the stage as long as the energy translates into the songs, which I believe it does.

You also can't blame them for giving the same answers to the same questions in interviews. You think you're tired of it? Think how tired of it they must be. It's why we always try to ask them completely random stuff when we interview them...it's more fun for them and us.

Anyway, I'm going on and on, so I guess I'll leave it at this. I've watched them get to this point after 3 years of incredibly hard work - and I'm incredibly proud of them. So, certainly, everything I write above is somewhat biased by that. But, I really don't get the "credibility" complaint or whatever. It doesn't matter to me WHO listens to Paramore or what reason they get into them. Maybe some 12 year old girl hears them on Disney Radio and loves them because she looks up to Hayley? So what? I would LOVE for my kids to get into them - and honestly, 12 year olds are going to listen to something - why NOT have it be great music like Paramore instead of so much of the other crap that's out there?

But then, I don't care who else listens to the music I love. If it's great music, it's great music and that's all that matters. And, in my opinion, Paramore's still making great music - and the best is yet to come.

  2. Ok, so based on popular demand, we're going to gather up holiday gifts, cards, letters - and send everything to the band for the holidays.

Here's how it will work - I'm posting here and in the LJ community, but anyone else who wants to participate can certainly do so as well, so feel free to repost this whereever other Paramore fans gather :)

If you want to send something, email me at paramorefans@me.com and I'll send you the details of where to send your cards/gifts, etc. It will probably be a day or so before I respond back with the address - I'm going to look into setting up a P.O. Box tomorrow so everything folks send can go there and it doesn't overwhelm my home mail box :)

I'm going to assemble everything into one large box that we'll ship down to the band. And based on the stuff people sent last year, it'll be a REALLY large box haha :)

Deadline for getting everything to me will be December 17th. That will give me time to put it all together and send it out by the 19th, which should have it to them by the 25th easily.

If you have any questions, email me or post them here!

  3. How the FUCK would it be about Chad if it was written before they met?

If idiots are gonna make assumptions like that, they don't even deserve to speculate.

    The language is unnecessary.

I agree that the speculation about their private lives gets out of control sometimes, but it's not necessary to insult other members.

  4. No one needs to be overly worried about accidentally breaking a rule or anything...if you do something that a mod or admin thinks crosses the line, we'll PM you and let you know - and no one's getting banned without ample warning that they've crossed the line multiple times.

This shouldn't worry anyone as long as you respect everyone else on the boards. It's really as simple as that.

  5. That's a classic venue. I've only been there once, but it's very cool. I saw.......Ozma, Straylight Run.....and I forget who else play there.

It's literally right across the street from Yale too, so take some time to wander around the Yale campus. It's really amazing - all Gothic architecture - just gorgeous.

Really good place to see a show - it's not overly huge and it's got a ton of history - all kinds of huge bands have played there over the years - so there's tons of posters on the walls and stuff commemorating when those bands played there.

Anything else you want to know?

  6. Just to add in a few points - the goal of this isn't to drive anyone away from here. We want people to be on here, to have fun and for this to be a place where everyone can talk about the band or (in the Off Topic forum) whatever they want.

What can't be tolerated is just being openly rude or cruel to other forum members. A little bit of banter is fine - but most people have a pretty good sense of when they've crossed the line.

And to be absolutely clear - the goal here isn't to ban people. We have banned very, very few people since this site started - basically all spammers and a few people who insisted on posting rude or obscene content. We don't want to ban anyone. However, we do want everyone feeling like this is a place where they can come, hang out and not be attacked for their beliefs or thoughts.

  7. Can the admin not change the way people register? I know it would be annoying, but how about changing it so that the admin have to verify new user's as well, obviously it stops genuine people posting till their registration is verified but it would stop all these spambots as well i think

We can do that, but considering the # of new members we get a day, I don't think Ash or I have time to go through every single one and approve them. It's easier for us to just ban the spammers when they show up.

I think I've figured out the other issue as well - while mods can delete the posts and mark them as spam, I don't think you can ban the spammer while you're doing that. For example, a couple people mentioned as spammers in this post had had all their posts deleted, but weren't actually banned (I took care of that last part.)

So, please - if you see more spammers, PM myself or Ashley and we'll get rid of them. You can email my personal address if you like as well - thebrowncoat at yahoo dot com. Those go straight to my iPhone and I'll get on here and get rid of the spammers as quickly as I can.

  8. If you guys see spam posts like the one that was above in this thread, PM me or one of the other admins. We can delete all their posts in one action and ban them from the forum.

As for this thread, it's cool - just please do not post pics taken from personal myspaces or things like that.

  9. I'm not even going to bother reading back over all the pages of this thread, but I just wrote this over on moviescenester, so I'll add it here as well - the Jonas Brothers' new record is really, really good. Probably one of the best power pop records I've heard this year. Those kids have some real talent and they made a great album.
