Great throwbacks!

Sorry I missed this event -- there were too many things going on all at once!

Thanks for sharing! I love reading your reviews and about your experiences. It seems like you and your wife made a lot of great memories! I think it's really cool that you gave the band gifts based on their talents and interests; I'm sure they genuinely appreciate it and will read/listen to the books and CD you got them!
Aw, thanks!
Really great write-up of the bowling event. I'm glad you got to meet the band, especially in such a COOL place. That will sure make for an interesting story to tell friends! And a nice bond you have with the band now. You can always talk about that bowling experience at sea.
Yeah, it was really cool. Worth not winning multiple M&Gs to build up the karma to win this one!

If you guys haven't seen it, I wrote up a pretty detailed post on our bowling experience with Paramore on the ship:

This was really cool at the San Jose, California show. I like how the choir gowns had the 3 bars logos on them.

^^ Awesome pictures! I didn't realise the confetti was shaped like butterfiles!
Our show in San Jose last night was wondrous -- I kind of wish I had decided to see a couple of additional dates now.
The paperless tickets thing was confusing and hence we were about 20 rows back instead of closer up where I like, but our family and friends had an amazing time, sang our hearts out, jumped and danced and jumped some more. The production is really good, and there are some fun surprises throughout.
Make ALL your friends go to this show... my friends, daughter and I dragged along my wife and son -- who claim "not to really like Paramore" -- and even those stalwart naysayers had a great time and thought the quality of the stage show was impressive.

1. Depending on the ship, there are different policies. NCL sometimes has a dining room that requires dress casual in order to get in. It's for the people who don't want to feel like they are sloppy, scummy, or whatever. Some people like to dress up. And you'll see the dining rooms are VERY fancy looking, so it's nice to match the feel and the service. You'll see when the waiters put your napkin on your lap for you, they are very fancy. Really great quality. Shows how far your money goes in terms of service. Great stuff. So in a nutshell, bring at least one semi-dressy outfit for dinner.
In the old days, there were at least 1-2 formal nights on ships. I think those trends are slowly fading away. Keep in mind cruising used to be for ritzy, wealthy people. So that was a trend back then, to be very formal at dinner. So these days some ships have formal nights, others just require bare minimum effort to look nice for dinner.
But there's at least always 1 main dining room that allows you to eat no matter what you're wearing. Which is just as fancy as the other main dining room. Just no dress code. So you have options. No one forces you to dress any way in particular if you don't want to. Just know that your options are greater if you're prepared.
I also hear there will be themed nights on the ship for this Paramore cruise. It's not something most cruises have, but likely because it's a band cruise, it's something Sixthman is putting on to make cruise life interesting. So keep an eye out for that as well.
2. I've been on a bunch of cruises on multiple cruise lines. I've also been on the sister ship of the Norwegian Pearl (the Gem). Same exact ship. Just different name. There's 2 other sister ships as well. The Jewel and Jade. They are all the same ship, mostly. Just different design on the outside, and maybe slightly different decor on the inside. And I've also been to the island we're going to on this cruise. It's really barely an island. More like a sand barge with trees. It's privately owned by NCL (like most cruise lines in the Bahamas/Caribbean, they all own at least one of their own islands). So don't get excited to see any kind of wildlife or locals. There's technically not even any buildings, minus the bar. Everything gets set up on the island as we tender from the ship to the island. So, to answer your question, yeah I guess I know a lot. This will be my first band-related cruise, but I've done quite a few others as well, and also have another cruise planned after this one, later in 2014.
As for food allergies, good news! The crew is more than welcome to accommodate any food allergies. Just make sure you tell your waiter at dinner before you order anything. Or if you want to order anything specifically, you can ask your waiter if it has any particular ingredient in it, and they can tell you. Usually they know the menu really well and can answer, but if not, they will as a supervisor who can. Same goes for the buffet or any specialty restaurant. The chefs and waiters are always right by the food so there's always someone to ask. For the buffet and even in the restaurants, you can also order food to be customized to remove an ingredient if you're allergic to it. So you can still enjoy the food you want without it being off limits.
Great notes! Yeah, the theme nights sound fun. I noticed they do those on the KISS Kruise. At Disney they do a pirate theme night which is pretty fun. It would be fun to have a contest with the fans pitching ideas for the theme nights.
On dress, I have to mention that I traveled on the Queen Elizabeth 2 with my dad back in the day, and we had to buy tuxedos for the trip because there were two very very formal dinner nights. Glad those days are in the past TBH.

Still going strong! Got to meet Paramore together last may
Wow, this post made me tear up -- it's so sentimental. And Brian, excellent Tell All Your Friends anniversary t-shirt.
If you are a dedicated TBS and Paramore fan, she has a keeper for sure.

20 Feet from Stardom is an excellent film about backup singers.
-
Wow some great music on this thread.
One I re-appreciated recently is the guitar solo in Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird. And I am not kidding.
-
One of many I like are The Joy Formidable. Bring earplugs if you go to one of their shows; and prepare to rock out.
-
Is anyone going to this show? We're coincidentally on holiday in Viareggio and thinking of coming up by train to see it.
-
Beg her to come to San Francisco -- I will round people up here and get them to go to the show!

They're touring a lot, and if you get a change to see them live, do so!! I've seen them perform in person three times in the past few months and, as good as they are recorded, they're even more energetic on stage!
I am kind of addicted to the song If So right now.

Did you publish the results yet?

Hey!
-
right so this is probably going to be the most complete list from me
didn't include opening acts or other festival acts that i don't remember/don't actively like/didn't actually get to see in the case of warped
(if anyone's curious about those other festival artists i went to taste of chaos 2006 and 2007, and warped tour 2007 and 2009)
* means an artist is particularly special to me
bold i've also met (or at least got an autograph)
...
nickelback x3 (was offered free tickets all three times just fyi i didn't pay )
...
Not OK where I live, but, this is OK since you're from Canada. Isn't it legally required that you go to one NB show per year? P.S. Actually, in the US everyone claims to hate Nickelback yet they sell out huge venues for multiple days... so not sure how that adds up.

Just listened to a long playlist on a roadtrip, and got pretty nostalgic. It included the "Number" EPs, which were pretty great even being a last gasp. "The Light Behind Your Eyes" is just an amazing song.

Well done!
I don't even wanna think about re-taking mine. I feel that I've gone off the whole idea.
Congrats!
-
i feel like i should know who that is
They are kind of bouncy and fun:
They toured with Reliant K here last year and it was a nice complement.
Hellogoodbye have a new album coming out in October, so they'll probably play some new stuff.
Not sure why you didn't get Metric, except they're from Canada so maybe they figured you get enough of them; we hardly ever get them here in San Francisco so happy they are doing the San Jose show.

Still can't believe this very creative and playful video wasn't featured in the VMAs.
Especially because it had a subtle back reference to BBBB (Ball_ _ _ _, Bo_ _ _, Bic_ _ _ _ and Ball_ _ _ _ _ _) (fill in the blanks)

To go with the new merch contest they are having, at FBR we have Fueled By Ramen style. We pick a winner every week for a prize. Just wear any FBR merch and submit by @fbrstyle or fbrstyle.tumblr.com
Hey did my "old folks wearing Panic! shirts" get any prizes, or did it just garner quizzical looks from the FBR staff?
Who have you seen live?

I'm seeing them on Sunday with a friend. Really, I am going for Avril. But BSB will be a plus. How was it?
I saw Christina Perri this week on Monday, and also Lenny Kravitz and Imagine Dragons on Wednesday. Lenny was really amazing. Christina was awe-inspiring. Imagine Dragons were really good, but more laid back than I was expecting
