Wiking
So I thought I would recommend some danish bands to you, as I guess they are unknown to the most of you. Although I must admit that one of them might not fall into the category ”unknown”. Also there was room for a Canadian band that I simply could not neglect. So here it goes Duné electronic, indie rock http://www.myspace.com/dunesite This band is from a small town in Denmark called Skive actually not that far from my where I grew up. A young band that has so far released two albums. They are clearly inspired by 70s and 80s electronic music and mixed with some rock music. And by the outfit that the lead singer (Mattias Kolstrup) wears, you might think that he is a big fan of Michael Jackson. Oh well they are great and should be heard. Some of my favorites: Rock Hard Power Spray punkrock http://www.myspace.com/rockhardpowerspray From Odense, the city where I live. They have won the Emergenza festival which is a quite big music competition in Europe. They play punkrock/hardrock, what ever you like to name it without much crap. Actually one of the few bands in Denmark that are able to play in that category. They should be quite amazing live, although I haven't seen them before and quite provocative especially live. This is Denmark so it doesn't take much to be that. But none the less give them a try and don't be scared by my description. They make some quite catchy songs and here are my favorites: The Raveonettes indie rock, noise pop, garage rock http://www.myspace.com/theraveonettes So I don't know how many of you who has heard of this amazing band. They have been touring in The US and UK and actually been on Letterman. Still I have a feeling that they are quite unknown on this board. No matter what they play music inspired by the 60s and 70s. Sune Rose Wagner (one of the lead singers) have said that he gets more inspired by movies than music. They live in the US and in Denmark they have been known as a rock n' roll band with its share of party's and what more. The two lead singers (Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo) suit each other well. In the beginning their sound were mostly rockish but on their latest album they have turned to the popgenre. My favorites (tried to take some from all of their albums): That Great Love Sound (1st album) Sunset Rubdown Experimental rock, Art rock (according to wikipedia) http://www.myspace.com/absolutelysunset I am a big fan of Canadian music. I can name a bunch of great bands and many of them are my favorites. This band is actually a side project formed by Spencer Krug who started Wolf Parade with Dan Boeckner. For those who are familiar with him this is a typical Spencer album. Noboby makes music like him. The sounds he make are really amazing and to describe them would be somehow impossible. Piano, Trumpets, Drums, Flute etc. and his songs can be quite confusing at times. So is his lyrics. I think he makes beautiful lyrics when you first get them which can be quite difficult, also as he does not give any clues. And the way he uses his voice together with the music is quite brilliant as well. In short, check them out. Stadiums and Shrines
