Hayley Williams, frontwoman and co-founder of the alt-pop outfit Paramore, cringes at the thought of her band's first gig together several years ago.

"Our show then was very boring," she said. "I don't know how our friends got through the thing. One of the things we're known for is having an energetic live show. It's funny to think about it."

Headlining an all-ages show Tuesday at Chicago's Beat Kitchen, Williams, who was reared in Mississippi until moving with her family to Tennessee, formed Paramore with guitarist Josh Farro and his brother, drummer Zac Farro, when she was a mere 13 years old. The band is rounded out by bassist Josh Hembree.

Paramore turned plenty of heads after getting the kinks out of their live shows and graduating from local talent shows to clubs and concert halls. Last year, they caught the attention of powers that be at the Florida-based indie label Fueled by Ramen, which helped launch modern day rock faves such as The Academy Is ... and Panic! At the Disco.

Shortly after signing to the label early last year, the band made their way to the Sunshine State to record the songs that would make up their debut, "All We Know Is Falling." They were joined in the studio by knobsmen James Wisner, who manned the boards in the past for the likes of Dashboard Confessional and Underoath, and Mike Green, who has worked on albums by the Black Maria and Yellowcard.

"Falling" fell into place quickly, written and recorded in just a little more than a month.

"When we got (to Florida), we started writing and everything really took off," Williams said Monday, en route to a performance in Wyoming.

"We were really excited about it and really happy with how it turned out. We've gotten so much farther then we ever thought we would."

Both band and album have received hearty helpings of kudos since "Falling" landed in record store racks last August. Their performance last fall at New York's CMJ Music Marathon was a highlight with both music scribes and fans and no small feat for a band featuring a handful of musicians still in their teens.

Paramore's current tour concludes next month with a performance at another industry-heavy music festival, the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas. They also are scheduled to make their way overseas this year and spend the summer on the road with the Vans Warped Tour.

"That's crazy stuff," Williams said. "We never expected anything like this to happen."

Also scheduled to perform Tuesday at Beat Kitchen are a pair of Calif.-based punk outfits Halifax and My American Heart and St. Louis upstarts So They Say.
