MyHero
I am thinking about getting my lip pierced, and I quite like the ring Josh has. My question is: Does his lip ring not have a ball on it to screw it open/closed? It doesn't look like it in the photos. I don't want one with a ball visible, so is that possible? Ta. hubabalou
Josh probably has the ball sitting on the inside of his mouth where its not visible.... because as far as I see (having just gotten my lip pierced on friday) there aren't any rings without the ball and screw closure. I just found some! I've been sitting for ages looking for them online and I didn't think they existed, but have a look here. hubabalou
^ Oh nice! Yeah, Josh might have one of those. I know though, that typically you have to have a ball and screw closure when you first get it done. Most piercing places only do that kind of ring for the initial piercing. At least thats how it is around here. I actually asked Josh about his when I had my last meet and greet, but we didn't talk about the jewelry... we just talked about the pain involved with the piercing. MyHero
If I get it done I will most likely bring a titanium one in and see if they can fit that instead. Just really like 'em for some reason. Love titanium too.
hubabalou
Yeah, once mine heals I plan on changing it to a titanium one. I'm probably going to end up spending so much on different colors and styles. hahaha

hubabalou
Hahaha. I'm just saying. Having a neon purple one would be kinda awesome. haha And having a bright blue one would be awesome. I dont want to just have the plain old silver one. hahaha

MyHero
Is it possible to just get a retainer for the healing period? Ie, the piercer doesn't put in a ring, but a retainer instead. Parents, see.

You can buy retainers at your local accessory store (i.e. Claire's, Ardene etc.) They're not too expensive either.
MyHero
Yes, but that doesn't really answer my question now does it!
holleh
Well, yeah it does. You can go get one for the healing period. If you're asking if the piercer does it with a retainer, it's all up to the piercer. You could always ask to get a retainer instead of jewelry when they pierce it. hubabalou
I'm sure you could, but I wouldn't advise it. The healing process is long and it probably wouldn't heal right with a retainer.
holleh
^Not really. My friend got his septum done with a retainer and it healed fine.
hubabalou
^ Well then the guy who pierced my lip lied to me. hahaha He said it would heal a lot better with actual jewelry in. It also is probably really different with lip rings. I mean, you tend to move your mouth a lot more than your septum. hahaha
holleh
^True. The most it could do is stall healing.
