  1. I like their new song, I love the way how they absorb musical influences from the past so they sound slightly retro, but in no doubt, a modern band. Saying that though, I was very disappointed by "Hot Fuss" as the second half of the album was generally atrocious (with the exception of "On Top" and the rousing ending to "Andy You're a Star"). Let's hope they can craft an entire album of fantastic songs this time.
  2. Fade to Scarlet This is a new band I've found on myspace, they've only got one track up but it sounds like they've got a bit of promise; http://www.myspace.com/fadetoscarlet Their song Roll the Dice is kinda a mellow mid paced song, think My Heart (without the screaming bit), Hallelujah or even Here we Go Again.
  3. Only heard a few songs from them, there was one huge epic song they did which was fantastic, I think it was called "From now and here on after" or something.
  4. I have many bitter experiences to share... But I'm in a relatively good mood today so I'll share a not so bitter one; Anyway back in High School, there was a girl I liked. We got along quite well as friends, but she got along better with the others in the group. Also it didn't help matters that I was a bit of an awkward nerd. Anyway I saw her again a couple of weeks ago to celebrate a mutual friends birthday, I know she had a boyfriend now (who wasn't present) and was very happy, but I thought I may as well try and work some charm just to make me feel better about myself and see if I had advanced from an awkward nerd to a sauve nerd Anyway it was working quite well, I was pretty much on form and making people laugh and stuff... then all of a sudden out of the blue of she asks me, in front of everyone..... "Are you gay????" I was like... "eh???" All my mates started laughing, and she became quite embarassed at her sudden outburst "so I take that reaction as a no then I take it?" I just found it quite funny... although I'm slightly worried about what made her think that, I decided not to press the issue though.
  5. Bad news, last I heard I think they've disbanded... well if it's the same Best Interest I've listened to in the past.
  6. Actors, 1. Kevin Spacey Best Roles: American Beauty, LA Confidential, Se7en, The Usual Suspects 2. Johnny Depp Best Roles: Pirtes of the Caribbean, Finding Neverland, Edward Scissorhands 3. Brad Pitt Best Roles: Fight Club, Se7en One to Watch: Joseph Gordon Levitt, excellent in Brick and Mysterious Skin Actresses, 1. Audrey Tautou Best Roles: Amelie, A Very Long Engagement 2. Natalie Portman Best Roles: Leon, Garden State 3. Alison Lohman Best Roles: Matchstick Men, Where the Truth Lies, White Oleander One to Watch: Ellen Page, excellent in Hard Candy, wasn't so good in X-men 3: The Last Stand, but she's going back to doing more interesting roles.
  7. I just saw that too, awesome movie. I cried. Yeah, I don't want to sound too pretentious, but I'm just tired of the same old hollywood formula, half the stuff that comes out nowadays are sequels or remakes. It's just refreshing to watch some films which actually have some new ideas, concepts and doesn't result in a predictable yarn.
  8. It's on his myspace site, just scroll down a little and you'll find it
  9. Just saw the Music video for "Knights of The Island Counter" Pretty nice concept, despite the obvious low budget.... shame the video ended a bit too soon for me... you'll know what I mean if you watch it ^__^
  10. Well she is the more famous Boa...
  11. I've heard a few of his songs, Sam's Song is absolutely fantastic and something about "Knights" is a nice song too
  12. Personally I think the term emo may have had a meaning at the beginning, much like the term punk had a meaning in it's birth. Nowadays it seems that the term is used by slightly pretentious music fans who use it to distance themselves from bands who they suddenly deem to have become too commercial or have "sold out" once they achieve a hint of success or mainstream play. Maybe that's just my cynicism speaking though.
  13. New album "Black Holes & Revelations" out 3rd July in the UK (11th in the US). Anyone else looking forward to their new stuff?
  14. Watched "Thank You For Smoking" yesterday, really funny film. The guy from the OC, I forget his name, stole the show though in his 2 minute segement Just wondering, is anyone else other than me a big fan of indie films?
  15. Awesome song, just wondering, have you watched Serial Experiments Lain at all? Just wondering if anyone has because I'm thinking about buying it. Tracy Chapman - Fast Car is another fantastic acoustic track.
  16. Sound of Progress was good, then they started sounding like and looking like every other American Band and they became kinda average... They're still capable of delivering a top quality tune here and there though, Last Train Home and Rooftops especially.
  17. Avril Lavigne - Why Green Day - Time of your Life (Good Riddance) Lisa Loeb - Stay Damien Rice - Cannonball and Blower's Daughter Elbow - Newborn Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down, Brilliant Dance David Melillo - Sam's Song And some Japanese songs that no one will care about
  18. Just saw the film "Brick" last night; It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt from third rock from the sun and Emilie De Ravin from Lost has a part in the movie. The movie is basically a simple detective story where Levitt's character investigates the death of his ex girlfriend and is told in a film noir style, but set in high school as opposed to the usual urban city setting. Done on a small budget but it still oozes with more style than some of the offerings that big budget Hollywood released recently. Anyone else seen this film?
  19. Not being sexist or anything, but the reason why there aren't too many all-girl "rock" bands is probably it just looks a bit wrong.... I mean don't get me wrong here, I appreciate a girl who can play guitar especially the singer songwriter types but it just looks weird when they're rocking out with one.... especially when many of the great male guitarists use it as some sort extension of their... erm... "member".
  20. Can somebody actually answer me this; What seperates Emo from other indie and rock music?
  21. She has a fantastic voice, unfortunately her music is quite hard to get into. She was awesome in the movie "Dancer in the Dark" though
  22. "How to be Dead" is a fantastic song, I borrowed the first album for that track alone
  23. Snow Patrol are alright, not the band that I'd get excited about, but I'll end up singing along to their songs every now and then. I thought their first album was quite mediocre, Chasing Cars is a fantastic track though.
