  1. winner of American Idol 8. I quite like him. His album is coming out Nov. 17 so its about time he had his own thread anyway heres his first single entitled You can buy it on itunes right now if you like it. i also love his recent cover of Now Discuss
  2. haha i was wondering when his thread was gonna show up (i think its time to start Kris and Allison's threads as well now )anyway i don't like Time For Miracles. Its lyrically and melodically not a good song. Adam could do much better than this imo. Apparently his album gonna sound a lot a different from Time for Miracles so I'll give it a listen when it comes out.
  3. don't watch the show but I saw John and Edward's performance on youtube. Its got to be one of the funniest performances ever. VFTW has it right. You guys now have your own Sanjaya X2.
  4. Amazon and Itunes sell 256kbps (i looked at my library to confirm it). @harry: thanks for the study. its definitely interesting to hear that. i can definitely tell from 128kps (as for some reason my silly itunes imported my old cd's in that format.. gonna have to reimport them sometime) but i can't tell much difference from the higher quality mp3's and the audio cd (but i'm also a band geek that probably has lost some hearing during high school).
  5. So this is a stupid question but what are loseless downloads? Does that mean its really close to CD quality and is that what itunes currently sells? Googling is just giving me a bunch of people bitching about downloads so I thought it would just be better to ask here. on another note, has anyone heard the new Foo Fighter's single entitled "Wheels"? I don't like it ... at all
  6. if this is the second time i posted this forgive me... i lost the internet for a minute anyways i'm a lefty
  7. if it was $13 for a mp3 album I would buy cd's whenever i could. there probably is cheaper options but i don't have a job right now and therefore i don't have credit cards (and don't like using them in the first place). amazon sells used cd's for cheap but i'm not sure if i would want to take that risk (and once you spend a certain amount of money shipping is free but i can't remember what that number is). i only burn cds to audio cd format for my car and for backup (as technology can fail). i still like itunes and other mp3 sites cause if i only like two songs off the album i only have to pay for those two songs.
  8. really?! albums are around $15 for hard copy and $10 for download here. I have to admit I do pay to download cause its cheaper and few of the albums I want are at wal-mart (which means i'll have to pay for shipping too). I do back them up with a blank disc though so i'll never lose them. same. the only time i used a cd since i've gotten my ipod was when my ipod wasn't working (or when i'm in my car).
  9. i should've checked this thread out before the albumsofyear/decade .. oh well i'll post some of the same information on here my first album was Hanson's Middle of Nowhere. It was on cassette and since i no longer have a cassette player.. i no longer have the album. last album is technically BNE but i haven't downloaded it yet even though i preordered it (need new itunes card to download it). before that it was a 3 song ep by the Material. They're good for what the are.. pop with chick vocals but definitely not awe-inspiring. I would recommend anything by VersaEmerge and Within Temptation. Music tastes is combination of my parents, brother, and being in the middle of nowhere. My mom likes cheesy pop like Lionel Richie and Micheal Bolton *shivers*. Its probably where I get my love of pop shit from. My Dad is a classic rock and 80s hair band junkie. I like a lot of those bands for that reason. My brother has the strangest taste known to mankind. He listens to a lot of foreign bands and can't wait for a new Devo album for some reason. He has definitely opened my eyes to different genres although I'm not a big fan of metal (don't like the screaming and growling in it... tried listening to stuff like Epica but the growling ruined it for me) . I listen to a bit of this and that (most genres) but its most likely mainstream crap because its either spend a lot of time on internet to find music or wait till music comes here and if it comes here.. its usually crap. I have some questions though: What qualifies good music? Is there a point where no matter how good a band is that they turn to crap because they have become too mainstream? Do you think you have to like certain bands to have good taste or that listening to certain bands means you have bad taste? What do you do if someone says you're favorite band sucks or is just a rip-off of another band? etc.
  10. first album i bought was Hanson's Middle of Nowhere i no longer have it as it was on cassette and i no longer have a cassette player.
  11. Really?! I've heard a lot of negative reviews for the album. Maybe I should check it out as I like the other two Franz Ferdinand albums. I'm going through my itunes and I'll pick out some albums i really enjoy as my picks: 19-Adele (2008) On Letting Go - Circa Survive (2007) (only one i own by them right now. plan on getting rest of their albums once i have some money) Origin- Evanescence (2000?) Folie A Deux - Fall Out Boy (2008) (one of my fav guilty pleasures) Take This To Your Grave - Fall Out Boy (2002) (see above) Extraordinary Machine- Fiona Apple (2005) Flyleaf- Flyleaf (2005) Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace- Foo Fighters (2007?) (enjoy all their albums to be honest but my favorite is Colour and the Shape which is too old for this list) Free- Gavin Degraw (2009) Breakaway- Kelly Clarkson (2004) Unleashed Memories - Lacuna Coil (2000) Halflife EP - Lacuna Coil (2000) Comalies - Lacuna Coil (2002) Three Cheers for Sweat Revenge - My Chemical Romance (forgot what year that is) A Fever You Can't Sweat Out - Panic At The Disco (2005) (another guilty pleasure of mine) All We Know Is Falling- Paramore (2005) Begin To Hope - Regina Spektor (2006) Perceptions - VersaEmerge (2007) VersaEmerge EP - VersaEmerge (2009) Mother Earth- Within Temptation (2001) i tend to listen a lot more than i buy as i'm generally broke and don't dowload for free unless i can't get it anyway else. a lot of my cd collection is based on artists i liked years ago. really need to update... but that also requires some mulah. edit: just heard commercial for new Pearl Jam album and it looks like I'm gonna need to buy it. sounds really good.
  12. ok just got done listening to the album and i have to say that i actually like it. ignorance and bbbb are probably the worse two tracks on the album and misguided ghosts and all i wanted are the best two. i like this more than riot! but AWKIF is still my favorite record by them.
  13. a lot of that was sarcasm. i wasn't mad or annoyed at all (mainly i was trying to find a place for this humanities crap i have to learn in college... why its a requirement i'll never know). i was just trying to say that music as more to due with taste than quality. so what one person's garbage is another's shakespeare. i didn't realize that Ross and James liked All Time Low . They are just another bland pop/punk band to me.
  14. taste is subjective. so you can't really say those comments. no band is loved by everyone. heck my brother thinks the beatles are one of the most overrated bands of all time but that does not mean he has no taste (or taste?) this is because taste is a word that is used to approve our own limitations or to approve of why we don't like something. As for the two bands in question: they sound familiar which most likely means my brother blasted them from his stereo at one time or another (obviously now this means my brother has the best taste in the world and i have the absolute worst taste ). i'll give a listen when i have more time but i'm not a huge fan of punk music (or hot topic shizzz or myspazz or failbook or well you get my point) ... edit: Lara- Lee means you and practically everyone else at the board with the possible exceptions of Ross, James (the1) and himself.
  15. i haven't been on this thread in a couple days so i have a lot of stuff to comment on: its sad that Ant is leaving. i've never met the guy but he seems nice and is an amazing drummer. hopefully he can work his issues out so he can come back. the two new songs are amazing . i wasn't expecting them to be this good. can't wait for full band versions. sierra's hair looks good but i liked it the other way better.
  16. i'll make sure to look it up on youtube sometime.
  17. i'm sure i'm not the only one here that thinks that. however, i'll elaborate a bit more. Ignorance sounds like a good demo. It has some parts that are good... other parts that aren't so good. Hayley rambles on a bit too much and is almost monotone (one note) at times. Musicians do there job though. I have no complaints on the instrument playing. Brick By Boring Bricking has good musicianship again (maybe this is thanks to the producer idk) but the lyrics are sooo juvenile. I can't get into a song which has lyrics that could be on miley cryus album.
  18. i'll listen to the leak because i'm nervous about this album AWKIF was good and Riot! is one of my favorite guilty pleasures but Ignorance and Brick by Boring Brick aren't very good songs to say the least. i need to make sure that i'm not wasting my money.
  19. ^ I like the idea. Ellen has been an idol fan since day one and will give the voice for the average person screaming at the TV. Plus with three pretty much useless judges , I may actually watch the judges comments instead of just fastforwarding through them on my dvr. In Other Idol News: Some of the Idols are sick (lets hope its not swine flu). Kris was so sick that his doctor barred him from performing last night. Lets hope they all feel better soon. Adam has a song entitled "Time for Miracles" that will be on the 2012 soundtrack (yes, its about the Mayan calender thing). Brian May (Queen) and Meatloaf have said its pretty much gonna be epic. We'll wait and see if this is true cause I don't like the title. Reminds me of something uplifting or a lame AI coronation songs... not something about the end of the world. Danny has been signed to RCA/Nashville. Don't really see him being successful at country music but I wish him the best of luck. Kris's album will be out Nov 17th with the first single coming out by the end of the month. Adam's album will come out a week later on Nov. 24th. No word on when Allison's album will come out except for the assumed "late fall" release. I think thats about it for Idol news, except for tour stuff that I don't care about. Seriously $100 is just way too much for that. I think even the No Doubt/Paramore tour was slightly cheaper than that.
  20. exactly ... the girl needs to lighten up. being called a chick isn't offensive.
