Harry
Riot was tracked using several different amps though, it wasn't all Rectifier. I remember reading something on Gearslutz.com where David Bendeth mentioned a Vox AC30 made it onto the record, but I could be remembering incorrectly
Scott!
Seemed like they almost used a different amp every few songs.
Harry
Actually you could be right. David Bendeth also mentioned a Soldano amp was used, I'm guessing the SLO-100. You have no idea how much I'd kill for an SLO-100. They cost $8999 here to buy:uhh:
Scott!
I think it paid off though. Using the different amps helped make each song sound even more different from the last. The differences are not just in the melodies/rhythm etc. David Bendeth did a great job in doing that.
Harry
I frequently use both Riot! and Brand New Eyes are reference points when I mix my own music. It's amazing how many people take the good production for granted, but I guess they just aren't production snobs like I am:p
Scott!
What is your opinion on AWKIF's mix?
Harry
It's good obviously, but Riot! and Brand New Eyes beat it hands down. Chris Lord-Alge mixed BNE and he's an experienced guy and it shows. The guitar and bass guitar blend together better, the drums sound beefier and the whole thing just breathes more than AWKIF
Scott!
I think both BNE and Riot!'s mixes fit the music. I can't imagine BNE mixed like Riot! and vice-versa.
Harry
Well that's true, yes. Riot! has a more "commercial" sounding mix, whereas BNE has more edgy guitar sounds and the vocals sound a little rougher in spots too
Scott!
I read one of David's posts on a forum and he basically said he likes radio hits and the new album is more artistic. I could find it, but it's a long post.
Harry
Are you talking about Gearslutz.com? I think I know the post that you're referring too, because I'm a member at that forum
Scott!
Yeah, it's Gearslutz. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/428988-new-paramore-chris-lord-alge-snare-chat-4.html The topic was actually about Chris' snare drum sample, but it kinda got de-railed. haha. But it's a thread I have read more than once.
Harry
Yeah I've read through that topic about 10 times lol. Chris Lord-Alge tends to use his drum samples for various bands. Not something most people would notice but I can hear it lol
Scott!
Yeah, Daughtry was mentioned as well. His samples are pretty easy to recognize. Especially the snare. I still wonder how he gets the sound of it. It cuts through extremely well without having to blast it.
Harry
It's just a bunch of different samples really, working together. I never use one snare sample anymore. Here's a mix I did for a friend recently. Just a short snippet from the song. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1663306/The%20Journey%20rough%203.mp3 The guitar tone was basically me trying to get a cross between Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory album and Riot! although it ended up sounding more like Riot! even though that wasn't the intention. 2 snare samples, 2 kick drum samples and 2 crash drum samples, and I reamped the bass guitar through Line 6 POD Farm and managed to get it blending fairly well with the guitars
Scott!
I just think snare samples sound robotic, even if they are mixed professionally.
Scott!
I'm just used to live mixes, so I wouldn't really know much about the studio.

Ignorance
SPAMZ Your objective is simple: Soul Accumulation. Your motive is a little bit more complex: Revenge Stage One To begin your plan, you must first traumatize a superman. This will cause the world to sign up for life insurance policies, unsettled by your arrival. Who is this despoiler of all that is good and nice and true? Where did they come from? And why do they look so good in classic black? Stage Two Next, you must sabotoge the internet. This will all be done from a amusement park, a mysterious place of unrivaled dark glory. Upon seeing this, the world will spontaneously combust, as countless hordes of ninjas hasten to do your every bidding. Stage Three Finally, you must tauntingly wave your opening of the seven seals, bringing about an end to sanity. Your name shall become synonymous with the spice girls, and no man will ever again dare sabotage your music career. Everyone will bow before your superhuman powers, and the world will have no choice but to give you control of the planet. indeed. http://www.darksites.com/evilplan.php
