yeah but think of how many americans probably die waiting because they don't have as much money as someone else

they're sorted by ability to pay and not basis of need which is ridiculous to me

Yeah that is pretty ridiculous, tbh.

And I just want to add, that there are plenty of willing-to-work folks in the US, like anywhere. So just because somebody doesn't have a job, doesn't mean they're "lazy" and "sponging off the government" etc etc. They're equally entitled to have a healthy life with the right sort of healthcare access. In case it hasn't been noted yet, jobs are ALOT harder to find at the moment. Everywhere. So yeah, I see Universal healthcare being a great benefit.

And if anybody wants to complain about how flawed their system is, come on over to Ireland and you'll go back home [to whatever country ur from] not so hateful of your own ;-) an example of how screwed up this country is: 58,000 x-rays were disregarded just recently. Not even looked at. X-rays that could have saved peoples lives. Cancer patients included. The best part; our health minister was out soaking up the sun in New Zealand for St.Patricks day when the scandal hit the news ....what did she do?! she stayed there to finish her holiday, which was like 2+ weeks ....instead of coming back to face up to yet ANOTHER screw up in our health system.

So yeah, no health system is ever perfect.

Most european countries pay more taxes than americans to make everybody equal economically, America doesnt do that. And i do not believe in paying high taxes in order to make everyone equal, or support everyone.

I don't get that at all. The more money you earn then obviously you're going to get taxed more. That's called being fair. And Europe is far better economically than America because of this.

$1 = €0.74 (euros)

$1 = £0.67 (pounds)

cause there are plenty of oppertunities to get healthcare and make a decent living for you self with out the goverments help. and if you get layed off for a bit then tough cause thats life, then people would be motivateed to get a job again.

Have you ever by chance watched the tv show "The Wire"?

I recommend it, as well as being a great tv show:p it really shows how messed up major American cities are with job losses, people living in poverty, forced into the drug trade, etc.

Not everyone can make a decent living for themselves. Thanks to a recession.

On the grounds of her "pre-existing condition" - a battle with breast cancer that she survived - Ms Canfield's health insurance costs doubled to the point where they exceeded her entire income. She had no option but to drop her plan, even though she has been recently diagnosed with leukaemia.

that's exactly what disgusts me

is that actually how 'the greatest nation on earth' treats its citizens?

because i'd be pretty damn ashamed of that

people just don't care about others and are too greedy to help anyone else out.

and this is slightly off topic but im tired of this

"this country is better than this one"

it's all bullshit no one is better than anyone

I can't believe the rest of Europe (america excluded, apparently) is now under the socialist flag according to one particular cascade of facts in this thread.

It's going downhill now, so I'm just going to roll with it and conclude with "America, fuck yeah".

also, just so you know, canada only spends about 10-15% of our budget on our healthcare so i don't understand where you're getting this whole 'omg they're going spend 50% of their money on health care, bad bad bad!!!~' idea

yea cause i said "bad bad bad"...

anyways.

i did a research project last year for controversal topic debate we had to do in one of my classes. and it came from a credible source. sadly i cant find where that article is cause i never lable anything properly on my computer.

and i said by 2020 that will be how much at the current rate it is going.

k thanks.

The bald eagle's actually tired of everyone just assuming it supports war.

THE OREGON WILDERNESS—Frustrated by the widely held assumption that he unequivocally endorses the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, a bald eagle said Monday that his thoughts on the conflicts were far more nuanced than many Americans might expect.

Speaking to reporters from his nest in the upper branches of a 175-foot ponderosa pine tree, the eagle explained that each member of his species was different and none should be taken for granted as a lockstep supporter of American military policy.

Sources said the eagle then excused himself and launched into the air with a shrill "skree!" sound, returning three minutes later with a glistening fish in his talons.

"And another thing: We can't forget Pakistan," the eagle said as he used his hooked beak to tear at the flesh of the writhing rainbow trout. "We have to make sure that they're not so preoccupied with India that they neglect the terrorist threats within their own borders. Remember, Pakistan has nukes."

The eagle went on to tell reporters that, despite his attempts to individuate himself from the general public's perceptions of bald eagles, he could ultimately control his image only so much. He also admitted that he still had lingering resentment over the fact that someone had covertly photographed him crying on 9/11 and used the picture on a "Never Forget" dinner plate.

"I really hated being exploited like that," the eagle said. "Of course I cried on 9/11. Everyone did. But I guess that's the burden of being the symbol of a nation: People are going to use you in ways you don't always like. You step out of the nest to clear your head with a few minutes of soaring, and people automatically peg you as some kind of embodiment of American freedom worth killing and dying for."

"And, frankly, that's a little messed up," he added. "I'm just a bird."
