I'm subscribed to a christian magazine called Brio [briomag.com] and i just got the november issue and the mail today and to my surprise they were in it.

They're in this section called High Voltage where people ask questions about music. I'm not going to scan it cause its just one of the pictures from the 06 photoshoot with her in her twloha shirt with the green and purple ish tights.

and we all remember that LJ post a while back about her appologizing for using "God" in misery business. [edit] and if you haven't read it, you can read it here.. http://paramoreband.livejournal.com/31376.html

So the question was:

"My friend told me about a band called paramore. I tried to check out their new album. Are they any good?"

Answer:

If you like the pop punk sound of avril lavigne but dont roll with her language and rebellious attitude, paramores a strong secular alternative. not that a 18-year-old hayley williams is a straight up soundalike. she's not. shes better. her versatile, energetic vocals also bring to mind kelly clarkson.

lyrically, the band sorts through emtional brokenness without getting mired in it. my favorite songs on Riot! not only vaule things such as patience, truth and innocence but also realize they're more than just a pipe dream. plenty of hope and optimism. maybe thats because some members of paramore profess christian faith.

you can sense that subtle spirtuality on a number of tracks, though one will seem out of place: the hit misery business has harsh words for a manipulative girl and misuses the lords name a handful of times. the good news is that Williams is bothered by it, too. a post on the bands offical site admits "I'm ashamed to say that, although i'm a believe in Jesus Christ and i claim him as my God, when i wrote those lyrics i wasnt addressing Him. I was using his name cassually. In vain, to be blunt."

We all make mistakes. I respect Hayley's desire to set the record straight and will pray that she has opportunities to share her faith with fans needing the Gospel.

hah i thought that was pretty cool that they used the lj reference [:

Yea... kelly clarkson. Kelly is an untrained singer that got her fame through an overplayed reality tv contest. It's no coincidence either that she ends up canceling most of her shows due to "bronchitis".

Somehow comparing hayley whom sits on around five years of vocal training (SLS no less oO;) and who also made it on their own doesn't seem to make a very proper analogy.

Other than that it's a good review I suppose!

Seriously. I was like okay they said she's better than Avril but then compared her to Kelly? I'd say she beats both, considering she can actually sing live and do it quite well.

  • 4 weeks later...

I pretty much agree with most of the above posts, but I think the article was only saying that the voices sound similar... I agree that she's overall better, but that's kind of a general idea of the flavor of her voice for people who haven't heard Paramore before. I think it's cool that they are such a positive band. =]
