i wonder what Bono and the rest of U2 think of the paramore cover?

Recommended Posts

I REALLY wish that Paramore would do more covers non-acoustic...

I love it, don't get me wrong, but just like with My Hero... I thought that was going to be electicric (if that's the word I want)...

Their Stuck On You cover was REALLY good, and wayyy better than the origonal..

So yeah, I'm sure U2 like it, I just wish they'd do less acoustic...

Uhhhh, don't you have to have permission to remake a song though?...

Because isn't the copywrite on songs there for like 50 years or something?...

I'm not sure, but I swear you need permission first, so there's no way they WOULDN'T know.... I remember Hayley saying something about having to somehow get ahold of Refused to be able to use that line in BornForThis...

covering it live or something you probably wouldn't need permission

but to sell an actual recording it makes sense to need permission

i don't know if U2 themselves know about Paramore covering them

but they had to ask someone who works closely with them

They would have heard the song though, i'd say.

Whenever a band releases a cover like this - As an exclusive track etc. They need the bands permission to do so.

I'm guessing that U2 would have liked to have heard the final product.

Yeah, to get the rights to remake a song, you have to seek approval/permission from the original copyright holder(s), which is actually all four members of U2, not just Bono, and pay them for it. Some bands just need the money and will give their songs to whoever can pay them. Other bands (usually more well-known ones) usually like to hear what the bands are doing with their song, so people don't hear a really crappy remake of it. If U2, themselves, didn't listen to the song, someone in their camp quite likely did. I'm sure U2 could find three minutes to give it a personal listen though.

The original is a classic and my favorite U2 song, but Paramore did a great job and gave it a whole new feel.
